The Practice began in the 1930's as Scarborough, Robertson and Love. John F.D. Scarborough and Partners Pty Ltd, the current registered company name, was incorporated in 1965. With the death of both John Scarborough and John Scarborough Jnr. in the early 1970's, the Practice was purchased from the Scarborough family by the then remaining Directors. In 1987, John S. Bonaventura and Allan J. Norman joined Kenneth D'E Atkins and Douglas J. Birrell on the board of Directors. Mr. Norman had been with the Practice since 1974 and Mr. Bonaventura since 1984. Doug retired in 1990 and Kenneth in 1993. Allan retired in 2013 and Peter A. Jones was elevated to Director in the same year; Peter joined the Practice in 1996.

 

The Practice registered the "trading" name of Scarborough Architects in 2000.

John Bonaventura, AIA, AIA

Director

John graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1980, registered with the ARB in 1984, joined the AIA in the same year and  joined Scarborough architects also in 1984 having worked at Bechtel Pacific in Melbourne and Papua New Guinea for 3 years on the Ok Tedi gold mine construction camps. He joined the board of Directors in 1987.

John has over 35 years experience in Laboratory design and has been the responsible Director on a range of Research laboratories ranging from $50,000 to $12million at the University of Melbourne Parkville & Werribee campuses, Monash University Clayton & Frankston campuses and La Trobe University Bundoora campus.

 

University facilities design experience also includes lecture theaters, workplace refurbishments, libraries, student & staff accommodation and student union facilities.

 

Peter Jones,
AIAAIA

Director

Peter graduated from RMIT University with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1985

and joined Scarborough Architects in 1995. Peter was appointed as a Director 2013.

 

Peter has been responsible for design & documentation of projects ranging from $50,000 to $8 Million.

 

Experience covers laboratories, academic offices and associated administrative areas, post graduate research areas, tenancy fit-outs,  lecture theatres and associated A/V installations, student union facilities, collaborative learning spaces and generally all building types associated with tertiary campus facilities. Secondary school administrative and teaching areas. Residential apartments.
